Big Bar Lake and Peg Marriott
The Big Bar Lake Strata is located on the grounds of the old Big Bar Lake Guest Ranch in the Southern Cariboo of BC.
The ranch was established in 1931 by Cariboo legends Peg and Harry Marriott. By 1934, Peg was running the ranch on her own and, in 1947, she bought out Harry’s share thus becoming sole owner and operator. For over 40 years, Peg welcomed countless loyal guests who sought out the natural beauty and peace of the lake while enjoying fishing, horseback riding, swimming, or just sitting by an evening campfire. You will see many of the old ranch buildings as you drive along Marriott Road towards the entrance of the strata.
In 1980, Peg sold the land upon which our strata now sits, retaining a 5 acre parcel for herself where she lived until 2002.
In 2008, at 107 years of age, this remarkable woman passed away. Peg now rests in the Pioneer Cemetery in Clinton.
In her honour, our strata donates $500 annually towards the Peg Marriott Scholarship which is awarded to a girl graduating from Clinton Secondary School who embodies Peg’s spirit, determination, and contribution to community.
